Melvin Ingram hopeful he can still play this year

RSCN0650After suffering a torn ACL on the second day of OTA’s, San Diego Chargers’ linebacker Melvin Ingram is hopeful that he will get to play again this season.

Ingram tells the U-T San Diego’s Michael Gehlken that all he can do is work hard and hope for the best.

You never know,” Ingram said. “I can’t predict the future. I don’t want to make predictions. You know I want to play. Everyone out here knows I want to play. Just get healthy and see what happens. … I feel like everything happens for a reason.

New head coach Mike McCoy says Ingram had been doing everything that’s been asked of him.

From the very first day, as soon as the injury happened,” coach Mike McCoy said Monday, “the first thing when we talked to him, he said, ‘Don’t worry. I’ll be back.’ He’s worked extremely hard. He hasn’t missed a day. He’s done exactly what (head athletic trainer) James (Collins) and the doctors have asked him to do

Ingram will have to be careful and not try to be the next ‘Adrian Peterson’ in terms of his quick recovery from the same injury. Even if the team is in playoff contention, it wouldn’t be a smart risk if you lose your first-round pick from last year two years in a row.
