According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, Bears running back Matt Forte will almost certainly be given the franchise tag this coming offseason, if a deal can’t get done right away.
Forte would make roughly $7.7 million next season under the tag and it would cost the Bears about $9.2 million overall.
Even though the Bears have $18 million in cap spacee, they will likely play it safe and not extend him longtime, since he’s only getting older.
By the end of next season Forte will be 27 years old. Usually by the age of 28 is when running backs begin to decline.
