Manti Te’o’s girlfriend being dead is a hoax, Notre Dame issues statement

According to Deadspin, the story that Notre Dame linebacker  Manti Te’o lost his girlfriend to leukemia back in October is false.  The entire ordeal is a hoax.  He never had a girlfriend.

Obviously Te’o tricked everyone into to thinking his girlfriend was dead for sympathy.  This is such a sick thing to do and I can’t imagine what motivated him to do this.

Deadspin did a brilliant job with this story.

Notre Dame released a statement claiming Te’o was duped, but how did he get duped into having a fake girlfriend.  This makes absolutely no sense and it a complete joke.

Notre Dame reacted too quickly and released the statement below:

Notre Dame Statement: Manti Te’o

On Dec. 26, Notre Dame coaches were informed by Manti Te’o and his parents that Manti had been the victim of what appears to be a hoax in which someone using the fictitious name Lennay Kekua apparently ingratiated herself with Manti and then conspired with others to lead him to believe she had tragically died of leukemia. The University immediately initiated an investigation to assist Manti and his family in discovering the motive for and nature of this hoax. While the proper authorities will continue to investigate this troubling matter, this appears to be, at a minimum, a sad and very cruel deception to entertain its perpetrators.
