LeGarrette Blount took a pay cut after being traded to the Patriots

legarrette blountAccording to Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com, running back LeGarrette Blount took a pay cut after being traded to the Patriots just two weeks ago.

Blount was scheduled to earn $1.2 million in base salary with the Buccaneers in 2013, with additional bonus money, but the deal was slashed to $630,000 with the Patriots (and is reduced to $358,000, via a split, if he lands on injured reserve).

Blount can also earn a $50,000 workout bonus in New England.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick did say they received good value when trading for Blount.  Aside from acquiring a proven player (Blount) and giving up one that’s unproven (Jeff Demps), Blount’s contract ends up being a good deal for the Pats.
