New York Giants defensive end Justin Tuck recently admitted that he didn’t put as much work in during the 2011 season as he should have.
“I definitely didn’t work as hard as I should’ve last year,” said Tuck in an interview for ESPN’s E:60, per ESPN.com. “The lockout was going on. I took a trip to Africa. There were some things I did in the past that I didn’t do last summer.”
When comparing Tuck’s stats in 2010 to 2011, they’re like night and day. He recorded 37 tackles, and 5 sacks in 12 games during last season, and in 2010 he had 76 tackles and 11.5 sacks in 16 games.
Tuck struggled with multiple injuries last season that hurt his production, but in the middle of the season it was obvious he wasn’t as fired up as he normally is and it was clear he may not have given the effort he needed.
Tuck battled through neck, shoulder and groin injuries and attributes them to poor conditioning. I would think that he’ll be a lot more motivated this season to make sure he stays fresh as long as he can, by making sure he’s in the shape he needs to be in.
