According to Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the Saints have restructured the contracts of defensive end Will Smith and linebacker Jonathan Vilma.
Smith’s salary cap number would have been $14.5 million in 2013 with a $9 million base salary included. Vilma originally held an $8.6 million cap figure this season, including a $4.8 million base salary. It’s unclear how much of a pay cut was taken by each player, but the restructures do place the Saints under the cap.
“Loyalty is Everything,” Smith said via Twitter on Tuesday after the news of the restructured contracts broke.
