Back in August of 2011 when Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports came out and exposed the University of Miami football scandal, there was a part of his story where Nevin Shapiro ( the booster who came out and admitted taking care of numerous football players on the team with money and other benefits) mentioned a game in which current Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma attempted to injure Florida State quarterback Chris Rix for a $5,000 bounty that Shapiro placed on him.
“We pounded the [expletive] out of that kid,” Shapiro said of Rix. “Watch the tape of those games. You’ll see so many big hits on him. Guys were all going after that $5,000 in cash. [Jon] Vilma tried to kill him – just crushed him – a couple of times trying to get that $5,000. And he almost got it, too.”
The reason I brought up the Miami Hurricanes football scandal is because Vilma came out yesterday saying that he’s going to fight his year-long suspension that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell handed down for his involvement in the Saints bounty scandal. The problem that Vilma has is that he doesn’t have any credibility since he was involved in the same type of thing at Miami.
At the end of the day, the truth is out that Vilma is simply a dirty football player that’s not afraid to take money in order to injure opposing players.Follow PFZ on Twitter @ProFootballZone
