Johnny Manziel’s quarterbacks coach George Whitfield told the Boston Herald that Manziel has received advice from Patriots quarterback Tom Brady on how to handle the NFL Scouting Combine and the kind of fame that comes along with playing in the NFL.
Whitfield said the two enjoyed a nice text exchange. Brady did offer up some advice for Manziel, who is one of the major stories here at the NFL’s scouting combine. Manziel, more popularly known as Johnny Football, is expected to go in the top five of the draft, perhaps No. 1 overall to the Houston Texans if new head coach Bill O’Brien takes to Manziel’s scrambling and improvisational ways at quarterback.
Whitfield said Brady encouraged Manziel to “ignore the noise” which is a popular phrase in Foxboro with Patriot players blocking out what’s being said and written about them both good and bad. Brady also told Manziel to enjoy the moment and experience the ride of being drafted and entering the next phase of his career.
It’s n ice to see Manziel getting advice. It’s certainly a sign of maturity.
