According to Philadelphia radio personality Howard Eskin, Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh never wanted to draft cornerback Jimmy Smith because of the trouble he’s gotten into in the past.
“You know those background checks they do,” Eskin asked. ”Man, it didn’t come up pretty.”
“I don’t think he (John Harbaugh) really wanted him, that’s why there was all that confusion at that pick.”
Eskin has yet to ask Harbaugh whether or not he was really against drafting Smith. He said he’d rather speak to Harbaugh on this matter instead of texting him.
That does make sense as to why the Ravens ended up messing up their first round pick. It wasn’t like general manager Ozzie Newsome to run out of time and be forced to move down one pick.
