Jimmy Smith released from prison

According to the Florida Times-Union, former Jaguars wide receiver Jimmy Smith has been released from prison and is now on house arrest.

Former Jaguars wide receiver Jimmy Smith has been released to house arrest shortly after being sent to a Mississippi prison on a six-year weapons and drug sentence.

Smith, 44, will have to wear an ankle bracelet but can go to work, school and church, said spokeswoman Tara Booth of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Otherwise, he will have to remain at home, she said. Smith was released from prison June 18, she said. His type of crime made him eligible for what the state classifies as an intensive supervision program.

Booth said Smith will also be eligible for parole in June 2014. One qualifying factor for the home monitoring is that the inmate be within 15 months of their earliest release date.

I really hope Smith can turn his life around the way Maurice Clarett did.
