Just a few years ago, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones decided to draft both cornerback Mike Jenkins and running back Felix Jones in the first round of the 2008 NFL draft. Now both players are no longer on his roster.
“We got starting time out of both of them,’’ Jerry Jones said, per the Dallas Morning News. “That’s not enough, but those guys aren’t NFL busts.
“We were proud to have him (Felix Jones) with that No. 1 pick, and as late as last year I was proud to have that No. 1 in Jenkins. But it is five years down the road now.’’
Both players did start for the Cowboys at one point or another, but you typically hope to draft players in the first round that you plan on keeping around for a long time. They both ended up not working out for Dallas in the long run.
