New Buccaneers offensive Jeff Tedford was a guest on Fan Interference on CBS Radio in Tampa and made it clear that it’s too early to assume quarterback Mike Glennon will be the starter next season.
“I think it’s really premature,” Tedford said when asked if he was confident that Mike Glennon was his quarterback moving forward. “As we sit down and talk as a staff, that will become more clear as we go. Just watching what I saw on tape, I’m confident that he has a lot of tools that can just continue to grow and get better as he moves forward into his second year.”
Tedford said he’s been able to check out a lot of the quarterbacks that will be in this year’s draft.
“I had a lot of opportunity to watch a lot of football both college and NFL,” Tedford said. “I paid particular attention to not just schemes and systems, but to look at the quarterbacks like Tahj Boyd, Derek Carr at Fresno State, David Fales at San Jose State, and Manziel.”
“Johnny Manziel brings a lot to the table. He’s a great athlete.”
“There are some very talented guys out there. I’m looking forward to evaluating them all on a deeper level.”
At the end of the day, Glennon isn’t Tedford and head coach Lovie Smith’s guy, don’t be surprised if they draft a quarterback early on.
