Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler completely understands why running back Matt Forte hasn’t shown up for offseason workouts.
Cutler’s optimistic that at the end of the day, Forte will be on the field for their first game of the season.
“Last time I saw him, he said he was lonely. I get it,” Cutler said. “Everyone was gone last year, with the lockout, and you do get that itch to get back in the office and see guys and work out. But Matt’s got to do what he’s got to do for him. Maybe they get a deal, maybe they don’t. But at the end of the day, we’ll have him the first game. I rest easy at night knowing that Matt is a true professional and he’s going to come in and he’s not going to miss a beat.”
I really don’t see Forte showing up unless he gets the new deal he’s looking for. Last season he played out the final year of his contract out of good faith. Now he sees that the Bears aren’t willing to give him the money he deserves. It doesn’t make sense for him to play with the way he’s been treated.
