Jason Witten will likely miss the Cowboys opener

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, even though Cowboys tight end Jason Witten won’t have to undergo surgery on his spleen, he’ll likely miss the season opener against the Giants.

“Witten still is aiming to return in time for the Cowboys’ Sept. 5 regular-season opener against the New York Giants, but it is questionable whether he will be ready to play.

“Witten is more likely to play in Week 2, when the Cowboys play at Seattle on Sept. 16,” reported Schefter.

With Witten likely out for week one, the Cowboys can only hope that both Miles Austin and Dez Bryant are healthy.
