Defensive tackle Albert Haynseworth is excited to be a part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He expressed on Thursday that he should have come to Tampa when he left the Titans back in 2009.
“It feels, great (to be playing my old position again),” said Haynesworth, who ended up playing a different position in New England and Washington. “This is where I should have been like three years ago, but all good things come to somebody that waits.”
“To be able to just get off the ball and wreak havoc, that’s awesome. Everybody can say you’re in a 4-3 defense, but just because you’re in a 4-3 defense doesn’t mean (it fits what you do), and I had to learn that the hard way.”
Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris isn’t sure if Haynesworth will be ready to play this week. But, Haynesworth did say he’ll be ready to go if they need him.
“I think I can be pretty effective,” said Haynesworth. “I’m an older guy and they brought me here to playy hard and teach some of the younger guys how to play.
“So I can be somewhat of a mentor and show them how that the grass ain’t always greener on the other side.”
Everyone including Haynesworth, knows that the reason he didn’t sign with the Buccaneers as a free agent back in 2009, is because they weren’t willing to over pay him like the Redskins were at the time.
