Michael Silver of Yahoo Sports has obtained some audio from a pre-game speech from the night before the New Orleans Saints divisional playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers in 2011.
The audio was captured by Sports by Pamphilon, who’s working on a documentary about former Saints player Steve Gleason who’s currently retired and suffers from ALS, which is currently linked to head injuries.
Pamphilon ended up having access to numerous Saints functions during the 2011 season, which allowed him to obtain the audio.
Pamphilon also released the audio on his own website as well as YouTube, for the whole world to hear Williams’ damning speech that Pamphilon believes “there’s no doubt at all” that a bounty was placed on 49ers quarterback Alex Smith in that meeting.
Pamphilon said, “At one point Williams says, ‘We hit [expletive] Smith right there’ – then he points under his chin [and continues] – ‘remember me.’ Then he rubs his thumb against his index and middle fingers – the cash sign – and says, ‘I got the first one. I got the first one. Go get it. Go lay that [expletive] out.’
After hearing this audio, I would really be surprised if Williams coaches in the NFL ever again. But then again NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has been very gracious when people have fallen short.
