It looks like the Giants did a pretty good job of reloading at defensive end by adding Damontre Moore in this year’s draft. The New York Daily News has nothing but good things to say about him.
The rookie from Texas A&M came in with questions about his work ethic, but so far his teammates and coaches haven’t had any issue with that. And while the kid may still have a lot to learn — and while it’s always hard to judge linemen before pads come on – he has caught some attention for how quickly explodes into the backfield. With Osi Umenyiora gone and Jason Pierre-Paul injured, the Giants don’t really have a speedy edge rusher. Moore at this stage of his development is probably mostly a situational player, but he looks like one who in the right situation could have an impact.
Giants.com had the following to say about Moore.
The Giants’ third-round draft pick didn’t wait for the full pads to come on to set the physical tone at practice. Perhaps overzealous at times if you ask Coughlin – and fellow rookie Justin Pugh, for that matter — Moore has come out of the gates strong at training camp and has exploded off the ball on every snap. Coaches will be anxious to see what he can do in the Giants’ first preseason game, which is 10 days away.
With Osi Umenyiora in Atlanta and Jason Pierre-Paul recovering from back surgery, the Giants may ask Moore to contribute early on this season.
