According to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger, the New York Giants have signed defensive end/linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka to a three-year, $16.5 million extension with a bonus of $8.5 million and an overall guarantee of $10.5 million.
Kiwanuka has been a versatile player for the Giants as a linebacker and defensive end, by lining up as a linebacker on first and second downs and then moving to defensive end in passing situations.
Osi Umenyiora, who’s also looking for an extension wrote in an email to Garafolo that he’s happy for Kiwanuka.
“Well, I can say I’m happy for Kiwi, that’s for sure,” Umenyiora wrote. “He deserves it, after all he has been through. It’s a good move by them.”
He also added, “It’s business. I don’t feel anything but happy for Kiwi honestly. My situation will take care of itself soon.”
This might be a lesson to any player on the Giants that it’s better to remain quiet rather than make a bunch of noise when your happy about your contract.Follow PFZ on Twitter @ProFootballZone
