According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Philadelphia Eagles will place the franchise tag on quarterback Michael Vick next month.
Tagging Vick will enable the Eagles to hold onto both Vick and back up Kevin Kolb who the Eagles will now look to deal during the off-season.
The Eagles plan on now listening to offers for Kolb once the off-season begins.
Even though the Eagles will now look to trade Kolb, they won’t be able to do so until a new CBA is agreed upon.
I’m not sure that I would be so quick to trade Kolb since Vick hasn’t shown that he can stay healthy enough to be able to lead the Eagles through the playoffs. He completely ran out of gas after getting beaten down by the Cowboys, Giants, Vikings and Packers.
Vick is going to be 31 while Kolb who doesn’t run around as much and take the same amount of hits will only be 27 at the beginning of the 2011 season.
Kolb also has been in Andy Reid’s system for a few years now and should know it inside and out. Vick has trouble calling audibles and reading coverages at times which makes job of the defense much easier.
