After the Eagles selected offensive lineman Danny Watkins in the first round of the 2011 NFL draft, it looks like there’s a chance he could end up in the CFL with the BC Lions.
Watkins will have to fight for a starting spot with Todd Herremans and Evan Mathis. So far both Herremans and Mathis have been playing better than Watkins, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Everyone has been talking about the prospect of Tim Tebow heading up to the Canadian Football League this season, but the chances of Danny Watkins heading north of the border are very real.
The CFL draft allows teams to draft Canadian-born players only — whether they play football collegiately in Canada or the United States.
Watkins, a native of Kelowna, British Columbia, was drafted by the B.C. Lions with the fourth overall pick in the 2010 CFL Draft. The Lions still hold his rights.
