Dwayne Bowe’s future in Kansas City looks murky

The Kansas City Chiefs and wide receiver Dwayne Bowe weren’t able to work out a long-term contract before yesterday’s deadline.  Now Bowe will be forced to play out the 2012 season under the franchise tag.  At this point we don’t know when and if he plans on signing his tender.

It certainly looks like this could be Bowe’s last season in Kansas City.  Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com is one person that would be surprised if Bowe is wearing a Chiefs uniform in 2013.

“I would be pretty surprised to see Dwayne Bowe back in Kansas City after 2012,” wrote La Canfora.  “The entire offense there could be in for a shakeup, the Chiefs continue to grab young receivers high in the draft and I don’t see Bowe in any rush to sign his tender, which won’t create great goodwill with Scott Pioli. The sides made progress, but never bridged a considerable gap. As more receivers sign long-term deals, it makes Bowe a more attractive commodity on the free-agent market and this could well be his swan song in Kansas City.”

At this point, I believe the Chiefs will look for Jonathan Baldwin to come in this season be their new number one receiver, so have a good reason to move on from Bowe.
