New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was on WWL Radio (viaProFootballTalk.com) in New Orleans and said that he’s growing more and more frustrated with how the Saints have been dragging their feet with regards to locking him up to a long-term contract.
“This is a big time for our team, especially when you look at what’s happened in this offseason, missing our head coach, Sean Payton,” Brees said. “There should be a sense of urgency and yet it seems like there’s not.”
Brees insists that he’s been reaching out to the Saints and is discouraged with their lack or reciprocation.
“We’ve reached out on a number of occasions and at times I’ve been frustrated by the lack of response,” Brees said.
Even though Saints owner Tom Benson has stated that both sides are close to a deal, Brees stated that they haven’t offered him anything close to what he’s willing to sign.
“Maybe not as close as people would be led to believe,” Brees said. “I would say that the numbers that have been thrown around by ESPN and some of these other places, at times, have been pretty heavily inflated.”
“It’s been extremely frustrating for me,” Brees said. “The negotiation shouldn’t have been this difficult.”

I heard the complete interview, and Brees was very classy as he said that. At no time did his tone evidence anger, and he did not air dirty laundry. In fact, he refused to answer a question of two, and I think that was wise.
This guy needs to be signed ASAP. Where else will you find a guy who is what Brees is, both on and off the field?
I think that the Saints are blowing this opportunity to reach out to a defensive minded Coach, & allow Breese to cease an opportunity of his own to player/coach himself. That’s why when Coach Payton reached out to ‘The Big Tuna, it just kept resonating in my mind, until now I say (especially as a Jags fan), man Jack DelRio would of been a perfect fit for that.
Who is available out there with a defensive mind like that?
