Drew Brees: Gregg Williams sounded like a “madman”

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees sat down with NFL AM this morning and blasted former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

“He sounds like a madman,” Brees said, per NFL.com.” He sounds reckless, careless. Even that rhetoric doesn’t belong in the game.”

Brees also stated that everything that’s said in a locker room can’t be taken literally.

“There’s a lot of things that come out of people’s mouths in the locker room, and on game day and in the heat of the moment. This year, even as I watched games, I heard plenty of stuff — let’s go knock these dudes out, let’s go do this, do that. If you take it for face value and take it out of context, there’d be a lot of fines and suspensions getting thrown out.

“My point is, you’ve got to be able to separate rhetoric from intent. Can you measure intent? Can you say the New Orleans Saints or anybody else went out with the intent to seriously hurt somebody? No, I don’t think you can. You can take an audio tape, you can take a microphone off the field and read into it all you want. But there’s certain things about this game — I don’t know if you’re ever going to eliminate guys talking crazy when they’re all hyped up, ready to go hit somebody.”

Brees still won’t back down from his criticism of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

“I wouldn’t back off of that because I know that that’s true,” Brees said. “I know that there are a lot of guys that look at some of the things the commissioner has done, the way that he’s acted, and what seems to be at times maybe a knee-jerk reaction or perhaps maybe his intentions were a little different than what is kind of claimed to be. That’s something that obviously we hope can change. We hope can get better.

“But I think the way the bounty allegations were handled, I thought was horrendous.”

After what Breese said about old time players, a bounty on his head is WARRENTED, don’t you think???

Bres’s w3s right o with his comments about older players. It’s no different today, as the averge player is bankrupt within 5 years after retiring. Most aren’t the smartest people in the world and a few hundred hits to the head don’t help.

Please don’t start. All he ever stated, that some of them did not invest wisely. Nothing more nothing less. so do not go hating on Drew Brees, correct spelling. He is a diplomat to our city, a fine man on and off the field. Jealous that we have him, I guess, huh.

I’m a Saints season ticket holder and am also getting a little tired with the Boy Scout routine. If it wasn’t for Williams, the Saints probably would not have won the Super Bowl. He gave a passionate, somewhat wild and crazy speech that most players weren’t even listening too. No one ran through brick wall after that to hurt someone.

Brees should just shut up and be a QB…we already have a Commish who is doing an excellent job with these overpaid malcontents & prima donnas that think the world revolves around them…Brees included…you’re yelping like a hit dog because your team got caught…quit pretending you were angels…even your frickin’ coach admitted to it…is he lying too?….

I used to like Brees….have never liked the Aint’s and probably never will. Now Brees is shooting himself in the foot, which is ending up in his mouth!

Most Falcon fans dont like us.But you to said were are prima donnas. You have lots on your Falcon team. And the last time ilooked you are still winless in Super Bowl.I am sorry but thats the fact!Ronnie White cries your Coach cries and most of the offense gets away with BS calls. And Ryan always complains when he gets hit.Go crawl up in your hole in Atlanta.Next year you may finish 3rd or 4th place.
