DeSean Jackson lead the year with punts returned in his rookie year with the Philadelphia Eagles. As a primary option in Any Reid’s offense, it was no surprise to see Reid reduce the amount of returns Jackson had over the next couple years. With new head coach Chip Kelly, it appears that Jackson will be handling most of the returns this year.
Even with the higher risk of injury, it seems that Jackson is excited about returning kicks again.
Punt return is going to be a big factor,” Jackson said Monday, via Philadelphia Magazine. “Kind of bring my niche back out there and help that punt-return team. Not only that, just go out there and make plays, get that electrifying unit back, to be able to go out there and score touchdowns at any given time
Everyone remembers the new Miracle at the Meadowlands, so it comes as no surprise that Kelly would want Jackson to return kicks. Jackson is the type of receiver that Kelly likes; fast. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kelly used Jackson beyond just receiving and punt returning. For Jackson, it appears, if this means he has opportunities to score (and brag about) more touchdowns, Jackson is all ready to impress his new head coach.
