Philadelphia Eagles kicker David Akers has a good idea of what his future will look like after the Eagles drafted a kicker in the fourth round of this years NFL draft.
Eagles head coach Andy Reid has yet to address the kicking situation. It was clear that after the Eagles got bounced out of the playoffs this past season, partly due to some key missed field goals by Akers, that he may not be with the team much longer.
It’s now obvious to him that he will no longer be an Eagle when the 2011 season begins.
“Right now, I don’t think I’m going to be back,” Akers said. “It’s pretty much that when you see a kicker drafted high. The writing’s on the wall.”
I agree with Akers that the writing is on the wall and he will definitely not be an Eagle in 2011. Whichever team ends up with Akers will be very lucky because he’s been on of the best NFL kickers over the past decade.
