According to Field Yates of ESPNBoston.com, Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola looked pretty good the other day despite some rainy weather.
“We got a lot of good work in,” he said. “A little wet at times, but a lot of good work. Everybody seemed really happy to be out here and it’s a good first day.”
Though others endured some struggles in handling the football in the difficult conditions, Amendola was a bright spot on offense, making several impressive catches, including a diving grab toward the sidelines on a throw from Tom Brady.
Amendola and Brady have developed a fast rapport, though he said it will take time to fully develop the comfort level he hopes to achieve within the offense.
“It’s going to be a while,” he said. “We’re going to work out the kinks from here on out until the end of the season and try to improve every day and that’s just the way football goes.”
I still really believe that Amendola is an upgrade over Wes Welker, if he can stay healthy and that’s a big if. As good as Welker is, he’s not as versatile as Amendola. You have to remember that Amendola was able to elevate his game against opposing defenses without having any great talent at receiver alongside him during his time in St. Louis.
