Dannell Ellerbe reaches an agreement with the Dolphins

According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, the Miami Dolphins have reached an agreement on a multi-year deal with former Ravens linebacker Dannell Ellerbe.

Ellerbe has reached an agreement with the Miami Dolphins on a multi-year contract, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.

Ellerbe had been in talks with the Ravens throughout today, but they were unable to reach a compromise.

Now, Ellerbe heads to the Dolphins, a move that may cost incumbent linebacker Karlos Dansby his job.

This is a huge blow to the Ravens’ defense.  Ellerber was expected to stick around and replace Ray Lewis, who’s now retired.  I  have never seen a Super Bowl champion lose so many key players in an offseason.

Update: Ellerbe’s contract is for 5-years, $35 million, per Jason La Canfora.
