Former NFL wide receiver Cris Carter indicated during today’s NFL Live show that former Saints defensive coordinator should receive a lifetime ban from the NFL.
“I believe that Gregg Williams, he shouldn’t be able to coach football any more, and the reason why is because we have given him our best athletes. We have given him the best athletes to coach in the NFL for the last 16 years and he has taught them the worst tactics that you can teach a football player,” said Carter via ESPN’s Bill Hofmeier. ”So, I believe the only penalty that would suffice for this type of crime: he shouldn’t be able to coach any more. It is a privilege for us to be able to play football, and a privilege to play in the NFL, and he has taken the last 15, 16 years of his career, and he has decided to do that with it. I believe that Roger Goodell, his penalty should be: he shouldn’t be able to coach in the NFL any more.”
I understand where Carter is coming from and I believed at one point that Williams should never coach again in the NFL.
But when I look back on how Williams has coached and what the coaching environment in the NFL is like, I believe he deserves a second chance, like most people who mess up in life. We’re all not perfect, and if he messes up again, then I’m fine with him never coaching again at the pro level ever again.

Any coach that tells his players to go blow out a players ACL and go for head shots on QB’s needs to have all the leagues WR’s and QB’s take old Greg out in the back alley somewhere and have baseball bats taken to his ACL’s and forehead until there is nothing left but red sauce and broken bones for the crows and seagulls to finish off.Williams you are a disgrace to the game and the great players I love to watch,How dare you ruin this for human beings who play and those of us coach potataoes who love to watch the greatest play football. My grandkids are watching and learning this great game, what are you teaching them ? I’m trying to tell them have respect when you decide to or not play the game.
If I had a group of men that I was in charge of, then ordered them to mame and mutilate others at my command. Upon there doing so, both they and I would be prosecuted for at the least battery. And would more than likely serve jail time.
This fool and his cohorts should too.
Football players or not.
WHy is no one calling out the players that played for Williams. They are no better then him. I would have not done it. I believe any player who made the hits for the bountys should get suspended. Also was the money paid out to hurt people under the table? The IRS might might to check that out.
well he probably isnt the only one to do this just the one who got caught, they will never say lifetime ban just indefinite suspension, people love redemption stories and good apologies but people dont care as much about coaches/coordinators, wouldnt rule it out but they wont label it lifetime ban and cris carter should know that
I dont see ANY team wanting to hire him to be honest its way to much BAD PR!!!
He should go to College and hope he gets a shot to be an assisatant coach again I dont see him ever making it H/C or OC DC ever again some teamdown the road might think his exp is usefull on a young new coaching staff and might take a chance but I dont see the PR going well for any team
what do you mean he deserves a second chance? The league told them to stop 3 years ago, and they did not.
You mean no second chances like,
Mike Vick…or Donte Stallworth…or Plaxico Buress…and more…
Death was involved or could have been involved there and each one has a contract next season! Jail sentence or a good lawyer and some passing time =back in the NFL!
PR my ***…the NFL is all about the show now. GW will draw Boo’s and crowd…Goodell knows that!
For the record I think GW is a Dip ****…and I really don’t think the players listened to him to the extent people think they did. Most of these guys are friends or are friends of a friend of other players. I can’t see them giving up careers for a lously few grand. I am broke and in serious debt and I wouldn’t hurt someone for 100k let alone 1k. (and I am a real bad *** too ;) This just isn’t adding up. I think it eventually comes out that the team was instructed by Payton and Loomis to humor GW but not actually go through with any of it, but to still play hard as hell. Payton is also to smart to jeopordize his career like that as well. I think thats what’s going on with the talks right now. Payton and Loomis are throwing GW under the bus and letting them know there really wasn’t a true bounty and that it was all in GW’s mind that there really was one.
Pete Rose got life for gambling!
