Cowboys sign Barry Church to a four-year extension

Dallas Cowboys safety Barry Church only played in three games this season before he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury and now he’s been signed a four-year extension.

Church received a $2.5 million bonus along with $39 in guaranteed money.

Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan believes Church is a future star.

“That’s awesome, this guy and all you guys saw it, he’s going to be a superstar in this league,” Ryan said, per the Star- Telegram. “You get a guy early, and he comes out of that injury healthy and this guy is going to be a fantastic safety so it’s real unfortunate, I think I shed a few tears on that one when we lost him for the year. I think it’s one of those things you do have to get over, but it’s fantastic for the cowboys organization and hopefully I can be apart of his career for a long time.”

With Church in the final year of his current deal it wouldn’t make sense to let him become a free agent.  It doesn’t look like the Cowboys broke to bank to re-sign him, so they don’t have anything to lose.
