According to Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News, Cowboys defensive end Jason Hatcher made an appearance on KESN-FM 103.3 on Friday morning and was asked who the team leaders are.
“Uh, dude, I got to be honest with you. That’s a good question. That’s a good question,” Hatcher said. “I really don’t know, man.”
Co-host Deon Sanders cut in and said, “That’s a heck of an answer.”
“Yeah, I really don’t know. That’s another thing we really need,” Hatcher said. “We need like a Ray Lewis. We don’t have that. We have talent and everything we need, but if we get like a Ray Lewis, everybody buys into him. When Ray Lewis speaks everybody listens to him, a guy like that. You really don’t got that. I think we definitely need somebody like that.”
Hatcher made it clear that the Cowboys need leaders in their locker room that will hold people accountable for how they perform on the field.
“You have to have somebody who will hold you accountable and with a leader like that, everybody is held accountable, guys aren’t doing their own thing here or there. Everybody is going in one direction,” Hatcher said. “Once you have that, you’ll be good. We’re still looking for it.”
Now it’s even more clear why the Cowboys crumbled down the stretch and ended up finishing third in the NFC East with an 8-8 record.

So, step up and be the man if you don’t have it in the locker room. Quit waiting for someone else to be Ray Lewis. He’s a once in a generation player, and is missing from 31 other teams and you don’t hear 31 other teams whining about the lack of a Ray Lewis in the locker room. I know he’s just using Lewis as a reference, but it is obvious the lack of leadership is a real issue for America’s Team. They have more than a few vets that can take on the role, someone needs to step up. The reason they are where they are and will remain there is because they are a team built on individuals and not pieces to a puzzle. Until they can check their egos at the locker room and step on the field as one, America’s Team will only be a contender/spoiler and nothing more. They are all professional athletes playing on the biggest stage, so step up to the mic, someone anyone?? Oh yeah, go Eli and the G-Men!!
There is a leader on the Cowboys team: Jerry Jones. He’s the puppet master who doesn’t want his boat (sinking ship) rocked by someone who would hold him and his erratic decisions accountable. It’s his way or the highway. And how many coaches have we had in the last 15 years?
Interesting to see how many black athletes in Basketball and Football or now sporting the moslem shaved head and beard… interesting.
