Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy told the media after practice on Tuesday that he didn’t demand a trade after Brandon Weeden was drafted because he was told he’d have a chance to compete to be the starter.
“As long as I’m given an opportunity to compete, if it’s a fair competition, that’s all you can ask for,” said McCoy. ”(They) said ‘just come in here and compete,”’ he said. “As a competitor that’s all you need to hear, really. You’re just coming here with your head on right and giving it all you have every day.”
McCoy said the Browns called him right after they drafted Weeden.
“(They) said ‘just come in here and compete,”’ McCoy said. “As a competitor that’s all you need to hear, really. You’re just coming here with your head on right and giving it all you have every day.”
I think McCoy is a solid quarterback that might be able to elevate his game if he had better weapons around him. But competition is what the NFL is all about and he needs to do what he can to be the starter. At the end of the day if he doesn’t win the starting job, he’s not worthy of leading the Browns offense in 2012.
