San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been unusually talkative lately. He went off on Seahawks’ cornerback Richard Sherman and now he’s bringing up history by saying he would have scored on third-and-goal in last year’s Super Bowl (can I say that?) if a timeout wouldn’t of been called.
“There was one play we had that we had called a timeout on that I think would have walked in, and the play clock was running down so we called a timeout,” Kaepernick said.
The play called before the timeout called for Kaepernick to run it in. After the timeout two back to back passes were called which fell incomplete on third and fourth down respectively.
The timeout was called by head coach Jim Harbaugh because it looked like the play clock was about to hit zero which would of caused the referees to flag the 49ers with a delay of game penalty sending the team five yards back. Kaepernick, however, says he thinks they would have snapped the ball in time.
“It would have been close, but I think we might have been able to get that play off,” Kaepernick said.
After being a play away from a second Super Bowl (I’m just going for it) in a row, it sounds like Kaepernick is still bitter about being one play away from winning his first one.
