Cliff Avril still doesn't plan on showing up for camp

Detroit Lions defensive end Cliff Avril was a guest on the set of ESPN’s Sportscenter and he confirmed that he won’t be showing up for the first day of training camp.

“Probably won’t be there first day, that’s for sure,” Avril told ESPN. “I have to sit down with my agent and figure out when’s a good time, if we’re even gonna show up.”

When asked what goes into his decision process, Avril said there were “a lot of factors.”

“This is probably one of the only times in your career that you’ll ever get a chance to, you know, opt out (and say) I’m not going to camp or whatnot,” he told ESPN. “But it also goes into with injuries and stuff like that. You know, you don’t want to get hurt.”

Even though Avril plans on holding out, he’s going to have to sign his tender sooner or later, because at the end of the day he needs to get paid in order to eat.
