Detroit Lions defensive end Cliff Avril doesn’t plan on showing up for this week’s mandatory minicamp.
“It’s mandatory if you’re signed,” Avril said.
Avril is exactly right, since he’s not under contract the Lions can’t even fine him for not showing up. So in the end he’s not hurting himself financially.
Avril is still looking for a long-term deal. If something doesn’t get done by July 16th, he’ll be forced to play out the 2012 season under the franchise tag.
