We mentioned earlier that the NFL has banned custom face masks.
According to ProFootballTalk.com, Chris Canty of the Ravens and Justin Tuck of the Giants have been granted medical clearances to wear special masks.
Per NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy, the former Giants teammates (Canty now plays for the Ravens) applied for and received medical clearance to wear face masks that depart from the NFL’s limit of four horizontal bars and three vertical bars.
We don’t know the exact medical reason, but from what I remember Tuck changed his mask so offensive lineman wouldn’t be able to grab it since he had a neck problem. Canty on the other hand has been wearing a custom mask for his entire career, dating back to when he played for the Cowboys.
