Chargers’ rookie CB Steve Williams tore his pectoral muscle

The San Diego Chargers’ fifth-round pick Steve Williams tore his pectoral muscle in Thursday’s preseason game versus the Chicago Bears. The U-T San Diego’s Michael Gehlken says the injury will likely end his rookie season before it truly started.

The Chargers won’t risk losing Williams through waivers so they’ll carry him on the roster until September when the final cuts to rosters have to be made. Then they’ll place Williams on injured-reserve.
