Chargers have received “a couple” calls about a trade on draft day

New Chargers’ general manager Tom Telesco has his work cut out for him after former general manager AJ Smith left the team depleted of talent. He has many options with the 11th overall pick in this years draft. Michael Gehlken from the UT San Diego writes that Telesco considers trading one of them, if the situation calls for it.

Telesco has received “just a couple” trade-related phone calls so far. The frequency is expected to increase over the next week and then during the draft.

Any pick in the top 12 will always be a coveted one and although he doesn’t dismiss the idea of trading back or forward, I fully believe the Chargers will stay put at 11. It is not in the Chargers best interests to be trading away future picks or players when there is holes all over the roster. Only scenario, like Gehlken points out, is trading back would allow for more draft picks to cover up more holes on the roster.

Trade up…the top 3 OT will be gone by the 11th pick. One of these three would be the foundation of a strong Offensive Line for years to come…
