The San Diego Chargers announced that they have signed veteran defensive back William Middleton on Saturday to a one-year deal.
Middleton last played for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He will be joining his former teammate, Derek Cox who was also signed this offseason.
When he was in Jacksonville, Middleton started in 12 out of 49 games and accumulated 18 tackles and one pass defended. His 2012 season ended when he was placed on injured-reserve after a concussion.
For the Chargers, the move comes because the need of depth at the cornerback position. The team lost Quentin Jammer and Antoine Cason this year in free agency. Those players were the team’s starting cornerbacks last year. Now the team will have Cox and third-year player Shareece Wright manning the two positions.
