The Oakland Raiders may have finally found an answer to seeking a veteran wide receiver for the team. Could Steve Smith be ready to wear the Silver and Black? This maybe a perfect fit for him to lead the young talented Raiders receiving core to the playoffs.
The Carolina Panthers star does not want to return to next season and there’s a good chance the team will trade him.
Make no mistake about it, Smith loves the city of Charlotte and its fan base, but “he does not want to spend another year rebuilding at his age” according to a league source. He will turn 32 later this month. With a new coach Ron Rivera and first pick overall Cam Newton at quarterback leading the team he really doesn’t mix well with the rebuilding Panthers. Reported by, Chuck Carroll of ”Football News Now” .
Being a California native he is hoping to get traded to an AFC west team like the Raiders or the San Diego Chargers once the lockout is lifted and the NFL re-opens their doors.
According to the same source Smith already cleared out his locker at the Panthers facility and residence in Carolina. From these actions it’s believed Smith wants to return home to Los Angeles, California and end his career close to where he grew up.
Smith has played his entire NFL career with the Panthers where he totaled 8,884 receiving yards and 52 touchdowns in with ten years of experience under his belt.
