Cardinals plan on exercising Patrick Peterson’s fifth-year option

According to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic,  the Cardinals plan on exercising the fifth year option of cornerback Patrick Peterson and ultimately sign him to a long-term extension.

The team plans to exercise an option before then to keep Peterson under contract through 2015, a provision in the collective bargaining agreement that will benefit clubs as they seek to retain players from the 2011 draft. The deadline for using that option is May 3.

There’s no doubt the Cardinals need to make sure Peterson never leaves.  He’s already one of the top corners in the NFL.
