According to Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network, the Arizona Cardinals would be able to opt out of their current contract with quarterback Kevin Kolb with minimal financial ramifications.
Since acquiring Kolb in a trade with the Eagles after the lockout, he’s been nothing but a disappointment on the field with his production and inability to remain healthy.
Kolb is due a $7 million dollar roster bonus in March. And if the Cardinals decide to not pay it and let him walk, they would have payed him a total of $12 million this season. Which really isn’t bad one season, it could definitely be worse.
With back up quarterback John Skelton playing well this season, the Cardinals could end up deciding to dump Kolb after this season.

In my opinion, that would be a wise move for the ‘Cards’ to opt out. Skelton is smart, talented, and healthy. Cardinals can use the money they save on Kolb to pay Skelton. Skelton deserves it. Skelton can be groomed to be an outstanding QB. I am totally for the idea of letting Kolb walk.
Sam, as much as Kolb has been a no show for the cards due to injuries, and lack of production, you got to take into consideration that he had a short offseason, and Skeleton has won against below average competition besides maybe the niners who totally anihilated him in the first game. I truly believe the niners were planning for Kolb and had to make adjustments for Skeleton, and even then Skeleton although showed promised still throwed a couple of picks and could of gave that game away.
The major promise is the cards defense, special teams with Patrick Peterson, and subpar Quarterback play. Kolb has statistically better stats then Skeleton. I am not knocking Skeleton potential, but if Kolb does not perform at a high level next season then I can probably see why would should cut him. I think its to drastic at this moment of time, even though letting him go in March would save the Cards a fortune, Kolb has actually gotten better throughout the course of the season.
Give him a chance, the Cards running game has also improved, but the play calling for runs, and passes is a big issue, and with Ryan Williams returning getting a few offensive lineman I think the Cards have a chance to take the division and compete with the 49ers next year.
