According to Black Sports Online, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and his foundation donated $75,000 to a few schools in North Carolina.
Newton and his foundation presented the Charlotte Mecklenburg school system with $75,000. The monies will be split evenly between three schools, with funds going to Collinswood for new fitness equipment, Reid Park Academy for new recognition programs, and Berryhill Academy for new technology in the classrooms.
“I wanted people to see me as well,” says Newton. “And you know a lot of times when I speak it’s, ‘Oh, Cam’s just a figure,’ or, ‘He’s become untouchable.’ I wanted people to hear my voice.”
“I wanted them to see me kid around with the teachers and with the kids as well. I’m not too far removed from where (the kids) are. You never get to see your teachers dance, your principal dance, and you just have fun doing it and that’s what (Tuesday) was really about – an opportunity.”
