Yes, you read that correctly. Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson smacked a home run over the fence Friday night while he was taking practice swings before the Detroit Tigers were set to host the Pittsburgh Pirates at Comerica Park. Johnson also threw out the ceremonial first pitch. A multi-sport athlete, Johnson has said that if he weren’t playing football, he would want to be a baseball player. Johnson played baseball in high school.
Perhaps Johnson was a good luck charm for the Detroit Tigers; they crushed the Pirates 6-0 on a rare one-hitter from All-Star pitcher Justin Verlander. The Tigers are currently 2nd in the American League Central division with a record of 19-20, so they could definitely use some more good fortune.
