Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher made an appearance on Chicago’s ESPN 1000 radio station today. He discussed the problems with the grass at Soldier Field and had an opportunity to fire back at Cinicinnati Bengals linebacker Dhani Jones.
First off, Urlacher talked about Bears president Ted Phillips referring to the playing field at Soldier Field being a home field advantage. Urlacher said that the field is a “disaster” and its not true.
“The weather I think is the biggest advantage we have against teams that don’t play in our weather,” said Urlacher. “But we’re a fast defense. You put us on that FieldTurf eight home games a year? We’re going to be really fast. You put [Julius] Peppers on that turf? [Devin] Hester, with all those cuts on turf? [Johnny] Knox? All those guys. We’re going to be a little better, I think. Faster.”
Urlacher then responded in regards to the comments linebacker Dhani Jones made about him .
Follow PFZ on Twitter @ProFootballZone“I think we were drafted in the same class, right? Is he a 2000 guy? I haven’t heard anything about him since then,” Urlacher said. “I saw him on a TV show with a bow-tie on though. So I know him better for how the way he dresses than what he does on a football field. Guys are going to talk. I’ve definitely had a lot worse things said publicly from guys, so I can live with it.”
I like Dhani Jones, the man was nails at Michigan. But no idea why he’s calling out Urlacher. All Jones has done is lead the Bengals in tackles a few years, which is akin to leading Minor League baseball in homeruns. Certainly nothing to yap yer gums about.
Leading any team in tackles for multiple years is a feat. It is NOT like leading a minor league team in homers. It’s like leading an MLB team in homers in…the MLB. People can’t make decent analogies worth jack.
Is this analogy worth jack, Jack? Seven pro bowls vs. Zero pro bowls. Average tackles per year 123.3 (incl. 2 yrs injured) vs. best year EVER 125 for Jones – in fact, only 4 years over 100/yr. You don’t know jack, Jack. While these may technically be comparisons rather than analogies, they amply illustrate D. Jones’ unillustrious career. D. Jones who?, most folks will ask.
Dhani Jones is a joke. What’s funny about his comment is Urlacher still had more tackles then Jones in every season except for 2008 and 2009, 2010 they are tied, yet Urlacher was in the NFC Championship game in 2010, and has a superbowl appearance in 2006. (Urlacher played half a game in 2009 due to a broken wrist) Urlacher has 18 career interceptions vs. Dhani’s 5, Urlacher 10 forced fumbles vs. Dhani’s 6, and they’ve both played 12 seasons in the NFL. Urlacher is the fastest sideline to sideline LB, you can put him into a pass coverage and he won’t get smoked, 64 career pass deflections vs. Dhani’s 39, and he can catch Michael Vick better then any other in the league, Dhani couldn’t hold Urlacher jock strap!
Urlacher is a joke on a team filled with whiny losers….Urlacher can’t hold Patrick Willis’ jock.
jones who? never heard of him hey brian lovington called and said they want you to come home when your threw
As a life long Bear fan, I am continually baffled by the condition of the turf at the stadium. Urlacher is right. The Bears are a team built for speed and their home field slows them down. Not smart or acceptable.
