According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constituion, cornerback Brent Grimes doesn’t plan on signing his franchise tender.
“We have no plans to sign the tag at this time,” said Ben Dogra, Grimes’ agent per the AJC. “We hope to be able to continue to discuss [through] all the issues at the appropriate time.”
Since Grimes won’t sign the tender, he won’t hit the free agent market, and he also won’t be able to play for the Falcons. He’ll essentially be in limbo as a holdout until he either signs the tender or a new contract is worked out with the Falcons.
Right now it looks like Grimes and his agent are determined to get a long-term done before the season begins. If something can’t get worked out by July 15th, Grimes will be forced to play under the franchise tag for the 2012 season.
