Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall believes that New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis gets special treatment from the officials.
“My technique could’ve been better, but at the same time, I think they gave him `the Jordan Rule,”’ Marshall said. “You get a little close to Michael Jordan, they’re going to call a foul.”
Marshall said that some officials are “scared to throw the flag” and believes that “nine times out of 10” a flag would’ve been thrown if it wasn’t Revis. He was referring to Revis’ 100 yard pick six that he recorded when the Dolphins and the Jets met for the first time this season.
It does seem like Revis has gotten away with quite a few holding penalties that weren’t called this season. But then again that’s most corners in the NFL.

Brandon is right! Revis is holding about 90% of the time. Watching him play reminds me of Ty Law cheating the Colts in the playoffs several years ago.
Ty Law played within the rules against the Colts. It was after that game that the Colts owner whined to the league and got the rules changed so that defensive backs can’t make plays. That rule change is why the league is so pass happy today. Revis, playing like Ty Law did a few years back, is playing outside the boundaries of the rules and should be penalized.
I’ve always felt that way about Revis every since seeing him the last 2 years. He especially gets away with it when guarding the other elite WR’s in the league. Yet if a WR did that same thing or pushed off they would be flagged. Not saying he isn’t an elite CB, just stating the obvious. Brady gets some obvious special treatment as well, even with QB’s already getting special treatment.
Can we stop using the term “elite” please? And stop anointing these people as being so great when they have not exactly amassed a body of work. As far as holding, what do you expect defensive backs to do now? Everything else has been taken away from the defense in general and the corners/safeties in particular. A guy is 5-6 inches taller, outweighs you by 20-35 lbs and you can launch your body into him to bring him down? He can push off but you can’t? The NoFunLeague lost credibility when bump and run was banished. Now all a receiver has to do is be there and raise his hand. The rules are slanted towards offense. Any hard hitting is going to be subject to scrutiny. Backyard football is rougher….lol.
Oh, and by the way…this is for brandon marshall. If you had paid attention or were actually around at that time, you would know that the “jordan rules” were actually a way for the detroit pistons to foul michael hard whenever he drove the lane, trying to make him settle for outside shots. There were no “jordan rules” by the officials in that sense. As steve urkel would say “read a book”.
