Bears not looking to use the franchise tag on Jay Cutler

According to the Chicago Sun-Times,  Bears general manager Phil Emery made it clear that they don’t want to place the franchise tag on quarterback Jay Cutler this coming offseason.

General manager Phil Emery said in an online chat Tuesday that paying Cutler under the franchise tag for one season — rather than using it as a means to negotiate a longer deal — would harm the team’s ability to sign other players.

If the Bears place the tag on Cutler they would have to pay him around $16.2 million for 2014, which is a big chunk of change to take away from their cap.

For those who think that Cutler can’t take us to the Super bowl, what team and quarterback are you watching? Does anyone remember back in the playoffs in 2010. We were just 1 game away from the “PROMISELAND”.
