Bears DT Henry Melton arrested on Saturday for assault

According to Michael C. Wright of ESPNChicago.com,  Bears star defensive tackle was arrested on Saturday in Texas for assault and public intoxication.

Melton was arrested for starting an altercation at a sports bar, per the Chicago Tribune.

Melton “became belligerent with some of the staff members of the restaurant,” said Sgt. Robert Eberling of the Grapevine Police Department. “He was asked to leave. When he was in the process of being escorted from the restaurant, he struck one of the staff members. He was restrained at that point.”

Melton was arrested at 1:45 a.m. He posted $1,000 bond for the Class A misdemeanor assault charge and a $210 bond for the public intoxication charge, Eberling said.

The Bears released a statement claiming that they’re aware of what went down.

“We are aware of the reports regarding Henry Melton.  We are currently gathering information to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the arrest.”
