New York Giants defensive tackle Barry Cofield is currently a restricted free agent and will have to sign a one year contract tender for next season. That’s if his RFA status holds up after the CBA mess is worked out.
Cofield isn’t willing to be a RFA once again and will demand a trade if he’s forced to.
“I will definitely weigh all my options and I will definitely talk to them about the possibility of a trade,” said Cofield
“Hopefully it doesn’t come to that but I am sure they know that. I don’t want to start verbal sparring now,” he said. “I want to see what happens and get in there — they have been reasonable and they have always been candid with me and I am sure they will share their true feelings — and hopefully we can get something worked out because this is where I want to be.”
Cofield would ultimately like to remain with the Giants and doesn’t want to attempt to force his way out of town. But, he is against playing off of a one year contract once again for a second straight season.
I can’t blame Cofield for feeling the way he does. The NFL’s labor situation is a mess and we all hope it works out in the end for everyone.
