The Houston Texans announced today that running back Arian Foster has been placed on season ending injured reserve with a back injury.
Foster missed the Arizona game because of his back, and he injured it during the first series of the Sunday night loss to Indianapolis. Two weeks before that, in Week 7, he exited the Kansas City game in the first quarter.
Heading into the loss to the Chiefs, he’d gained 531 yards in the first six weeks. He carried four times for 11 yards at Arrowhead Stadium. In his final appearance, he didn’t record a rush, and was targeted once in the passing game. The 542 rushing yards is his lowest output since 2009, when he was a rookie. It will be the first time in his five-year NFL career that his season was ended by injury.
It’s unfortunate that Foster’s season is over already after being one of the NFL’s top backs over the past few seasons. Hopefully he can bounce back in 2014.
